WHAT IS SEMAGLUTIDE?

Semaglutide is a Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that is found in your digestive system (the gut) and plays a huge role in controlling your appetite and assisting in digestion. It increases insulin production, a hormone that lowers the blood sugar level while inhibiting glucagon secretion, which is a hormone that raises blood sugar, and reduces appetite and energy intake while delaying gastric emptying.

  • Reduces food intake by lowering appetite.
  • It slows food digestion in the stomach
  • Decreases your body fat percentage
  • Weight loss
  • Decreased cardiovascular outcomes in subjects with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
  • Lower HbA1c levels
  • Enhance the growth of β cells in the pancreas.

Clinical study trials have shown this treatment can help adult patients lose almost 15% of their body weight when combined with routine exercise and a healthy diet.

*Unfortunately, not everyone will be a good candidate for Semaglutide. If you have a history of certain endocrine or thyroid tumors, particularly medullary thyroid cancer, we recommend discussing this treatment with your physician before coming in for a consultation.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM SEMAGLUTIDE INJECTIONS

After having your consultation, we will walk you through the steps that are very important to follow to have the most success with the Semaglutide treatment. You will need to perform the injection once a week, and it needs to be done on the same day every week, although it doesn’t have to be at the same time. The single-use injection is very similar to the ones that diabetics use to deliver their insulin. When administering the injection, it can be in the same area (i.e. abdomen, thigh, upper arm), but you should never do it in the exact same spot. You can also take the injection with or without food, it won’t change the effectiveness of the shot. Due to the nature of the treatment, there are possible side effects from the medication, but usually subside with continued use. such as:

  • Bloating
  • Burping
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Indigestion
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain
  • Vomiting

While these reactions are normal, please let us know immediately if you experience these side effects as it may require a change in your dosage.

Every person’s body will react differently to the treatment, so you should never compare your journey to someone else’s. It is important to remember that this isn’t a quick fix, and is certainly not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle. We encourage our patients to be patient and understanding, as well as dedicated to certain lifestyle changes. Typically, the dosage will be increased a little more every four weeks as your body adjusts, and it could take four months or longer to see the best results.

WHAT IS TIRZEPATIDE?

Tirzepatide is a once-weekly injection that is FDA-approved to be used to decrease blood sugar (blood glucose) in adults who have type 2 diabetes. It should be used together with diet and exercise. Tirzepatide has also been shown in clinical trials to be useful for weight loss. Expect a approval from FDA for weight loss soon.

HOW IS TIRZEPATIDE DIFFERENT FROM OZEMPIC?

Tirzepatide is the first dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist which means it works on the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptors and the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors. In clinical trials, weight loss achieved with Tirzepatide was much more than Semaglutide like compounds.

WHAT ARE THE COMMON SIDE EFFECTS OF TIRZEPATIDE?

Everyone can have a different experience, but here are the most common side effects experienced by patients taking Tirzepatide:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Decreased appetite
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Indigestion
  • Stomach Pain

In studies, most nausea, vomiting and diarrhea events occurred while the dose of TIRZEPATIDE was being increased. These events decreased over time.
